A Defining Moment at Roundup 2025: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future

Some events are special because of the programming. Some are special because of the people. Roundup 2025 was both.

Hosted by SBTC Collegiate, Roundup is a yearly gathering of college ministers, student leaders, and church partners from across Texas and beyond. It’s designed to equip the local church to reach, disciple, and send college students with gospel purpose—and that heartbeat came through clearly this year.

One of the most significant moments of the event was the transition of leadership from longtime SBTC Collegiate leader Mitch Tidwell to Drew Humphrey, who now steps into that role. Mitch, who launched Roundup years ago with just a handful of leaders in a boardroom, opened the event with a message that framed college ministry as an Alamo moment—a pivotal, defining stand that shapes the future of students and churches alike.

Drew followed with a message that drew from Genesis 26. He challenged leaders to dig again the spiritual “wells” of previous generations—wells of prayer, obedience, and intentionality. It was the kind of message that reminded everyone in the room that ministry to college students isn’t just important—it’s urgent.

What Makes Roundup Unique

What I appreciate most about Roundup is how focused it is on the local church. Rather than trying to build something separate from the church, SBTC Collegiate consistently works to strengthen it—training and encouraging church-based leaders who are in the trenches with students week after week.

There were leaders from all across Texas, the country, and even Canada, in the room—some just starting out in college ministry, others who’ve been in it for years. And through breakouts, conversations, worship, and messages, there was one clear throughline: reaching and sending students is worth it.

Capturing the Story

My role at Roundup this year was to handle photography and recap video coverage. But for me, it wasn’t just another job. I’ve worked with SBTC Collegiate in various ways over the years, and I’ve been consistently encouraged—and blessed—by their ministry and leadership.

Getting to document this event was meaningful not just because of what was happening in the room, but because of who was in it.

There were moments of laughter, moments of connection, and a strong sense of unity around a shared mission. These are the kinds of events I love to document—not just because they’re well-run, but because they matter to the people they’re designed for.

Looking Ahead

I’m excited for the future of SBTC Collegiate. Drew brings experience, conviction, and a servant-hearted posture to this new season, and it’s clear that the vision for reaching college students through the local church is alive and well.

If you’re leading a ministry event like this—one where heart, mission, and momentum meet—I’d love to help you capture it.
